Which Classes ARE FOR YOU?
Upgrade Training. May be taken in lieu of Foundations of Capability, if you've already had Introduction to CMMI for Development (or Services) V1.3. You may still want to add one or both Building Excellence courses to sharpen your knowledge. (In fact, unless you served on a V1.3 SCAMPI appraisal team for the appropriate constellation, you'll still need the applicable Building Excellence course to be a V2.0 appraisal team member [ATM]. See the CMMI Institute's ATM Eligibility Policy for full details.) Covers basic changes to the model (from V1.3), but please be forewarned -- it does not get into Practice Area details like the Foundations course does.

Foundations of Capability. The two-day introductory course. This class (or Upgrade Training) is the prerequisite to all other CMMI Institute-certified V2.0 classes (including both Building Excellence courses). Covers basic concepts, the model architecture, the core practice areas, and appraisals. (See our calendar for dates.)

Building Development Excellence. (See our calendar for dates.) A one-day course for anyone heavily involved in a CMMI Development V2.0 initiative; required for CMMI-DEV V2.0 appraisal team members (ATMs). Foundations of Capability or Upgrade Training is a strict prerequisite. Covers content specific to CMMI-DEV V2.0 and provides guidance on using CMMI V2.0 in a solution development environment. You'll participate in a variety of exercises to apply your knowledge, mainly working as part of a team.

Building Service Excellence. (See our calendar for dates.) A one-day class for people deeply involved in a CMMI Services V2.0 initiative; required for CMMI-SVC V2.0 appraisal team members. Foundations of Capability or Upgrade Training is a strict prerequisite. Introduces content specific to CMMI-SVC V2.0 and provides guidance on using CMMI V2.0 in a service management and delivery environment. Like its Development-centric sibling, this course is largely exercise- and team-driven.

About the Online Model Viewer and CMMI Associate Exam

* CMMI V2.0 is available online, via subscription only. Your tuition includes access to the CMMI online Model Viewer for 30 days. Access typically begins a few days before class; we recommend you download a pdf copy of the model and have it accessible during class in case of Model Viewer access issues.
** Although passing the Certified CMMI Associate exam is not required to complete the course, it is required to serve on a CMMI V2.0 appraisal team. Your Upgrade Training tuition includes a credit to register with the CMMI Institute to take this exam online. The credit must be used within 30 days after the class begins.

*** We won't use these "standard" slides and exercises during class, but you may still download them for your future reference.
Tuition and Enrollment
Are seats available? Enrollment ends at 5 pm ET on the Thursday of the week before class, or when class is full. If no seats are available, you'll find out when you try to enroll. Please don't contact us regarding seat availability; we'll be unable to provide a timely response.

Once registered, watch your email carefully 7-10 days before class. Even check your Junk/Spam folder! You'll receive one message from us, giving you links to password-protected webpages for your classes. Each page provides you with (1) pre-class instructions, (2) the Zoom link, (3) course material for downloading, and (4) bonus files or links. You'll also receive one email from the CMMI Institute for each class; please take actions requested in those messages promptly, or you may not gain online Model Viewer access prior to class.

Invest the time needed to prepare. Allow at least 30-60 minutes prep time the week before class to download material, get to know Zoom, and gain access to your CMMI Institute account. If you can't attend class because you haven't followed pre-class guidance, you won't be issued a refund.
​
Consider an additional screen or printing key documents. In addition to viewing slides and a talking head in Zoom, you'll sometimes need to access the CMMI -- which is also online. So consider an additional screen or at least a large one. Or ponder printing some files in advance.
